Sierra de la Laguna Adventures
Treks with burros across the Baja Peninsula
2 options: 4 days/3 nights and 2 days/1 night

Join us for a truly unforgettable trek across the Baja Peninsula. This unique trip through the majestic Sierra de la Laguna, one of Baja's most stunning, but least explored areas, is a terrific adventure for avid walkers. Total altitude gain is roughly 6,500 feet, much of which is gained in a 6-7 hour hike the first day.

With burros carrying all your belongings and guides on hand to do all the cooking and show the way, you can simply relax and enjoy the walk through the magnificent scenery. The variation is incredible. We'll start in the desert, work our way up through the spiny forests, then on into lush preserves of oak and pine. When we reach the pinnacle we'll have a sweeping panoramic view of the peninsula, with the Sea of Cortez on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. We’ll have several opportunities to play in rivers and waterfalls. Warm showers will be available after hiking each day.

Our guides will prepare all meals, which will include a delightful variety of Mexican dishes. Red wine will be available with dinner each evening.

The 4-day/3 night Sierra de la Laguna Adventure requires a minimum of 4 people for a departure. Our scheduled dates for 2008-2009 are as follows:

2008 2009
January 20-23, 2008 January 4-7, 2009
March 16-19, 2008 February 8-11, 2009
April 13-16, 2008 March 8-11, 2009
December 21-24, 2008 April 5-8, 2009
December, 27-30, 2009

If you have at least 4 people in your party we can arrange a special departure for your group.

This 2-day/1 night trip is the perfect opportunity to experience the beauty and magic of the Sierras, without committing so much of your valuable vacation time. On day 1 we drive into a secluded part of the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve and set up camp. We spend the rest of that day hiking along a lush riverbed to a beautiful desert waterfall. Throughout the walk we are surrounded by magnificent flora and fauna. This is an easy, 4-hour walk with no climbing and just a small amount of walking over boulders. When we return to camp you can rinse away the efforts of the day with a warm shower, then enjoy the terrific dinner – accompanied by delicious Baja wines – that your guide will prepare for you.

On day 2 you'll wake up to a fantastic Mexican breakfast. We'll then set out to look for some of the bird species that are unique to the Sierras, and enjoy an invigorating hike in the lower foothills of the Sierras. We'll have you back to town by 4:00 PM.
